Brexit Update: EMA Prefers Amsterdam

This is just a quick update on the status of the move of the EMA headquarters from London, due to the UK leaving the European Union, generally known as Brexit. The IDMP “SPOR” Master Data Management project at EMA is expected to be delayed due to the move, but IDMP is the only project known to span the move period.

EMA surveyed its employees and did other analysis to determine their preferred location for moving the EMA offices. Although the decision does not rest with the EMA staff, their top choices are

3. Vienna
2. Barcelona
1. Amsterdam

The primary consideration for Amsterdam is that they estimate that 81% of the current EMA employees would be able to continue working in the new location, with other cities further down the list retaining under 30%.

The final decision is up to the EU leaders. Their next meeting in October is scheduled to try to hash this out, with the final choice estimated to be published in November.

I really love the city of Barcelona, and would be very pleased if EMA’s headquarters move increases my chance of going there again. I have also been to Amsterdam and Vienna, and both are great cities to visit.
